| Innovative detection systems are adaptable to a wide
variety of custom drug discovery applications. An oxygen sensitive fluorescent
compound (tris 1,7-diphenyl-1,10 phenanthroline ruthenium (II) chloride) is
embedded in a gas permeable and hydrophobic matrix permanently attached to the
bottom of a 96-well or 384-well plate. As oxygen is consumed, the biosensor
fluoresces, providing a signal that can be correlated to cell growth or oxygen
consumption. BD Falcon
plates are ideal for primary and secondary screens measuring viability,
toxicity, or antibiotic resistance, as well as for subcellular systems like
oxidative enzymes. Plates allow homogenous instantaneous detection of oxygen
levels, without the need for additional reagents or steps, and easy kinetic
measurements for growth or drug inhibition assays. The microplate format of
